As a result, cloud architects are shifting focus from manual configuration to higher-value activities such as AI/ML workload design, data lake architecture for AI, and governance of AI-deployed infrastructure. The demand for architects who understand how to integrate AI services (e.g., SageMaker, AI Platform) into cloud solutions is growing rapidly, while pure infrastructure management roles are being reduced. However, AI still cannot handle complex, organization-specific constraints, multi-cloud integration, or regulatory compliance in Australia’s financial and government sectors, so strategic human oversight remains critical. Architects who do not upskill in AI/ML service design may face salary stagnation or redundancy in the next 2–3 years.
