AI is automating much of the routine data extraction, cleaning, and even basic visualization generation, reducing demand for entry-level analysts who only do those tasks. Tools like ChatGPT for SQL generation and Copilot for Python are increasing the productivity of senior analysts, but also raising the bar: employers now expect analysts to focus on higher-value interpretation, storytelling, and causal inference. The role is shifting from 'query monkey' to 'strategic advisor', with advanced SQL and Python remaining essential but no longer sufficient without strong business context and communication skills.
